Description
Looking for a New Housemate in a Green, Community-Oriented Villa in Budapest
About our home and community
We started out in September 2021, looking for a place to live that was close to nature without being too far from the city, with spacious communal areas and separate private bedrooms. We succeeded in renting part of a villa that is quite unique even among cohousing communities.
We love communal living and try to coordinate things like inviting guests over, using shared spaces, and other activities that affect everyone with our housemates, so that living together works well for everybody.
We share the household chores and assign responsibility for each task to a specific person to keep everyday life running smoothly. We strive to make environmentally friendly choices around the house, sort our waste for recycling, and compost in the garden. We also hold regular house meetings where we share our questions, observations, and ideas with one another.
We used to host themed cultural gatherings at the villa about once every three months, and we'd love to bring this tradition back, so you can look forward to that as well!
The house
The apartment spans two floors, allowing the communal and private areas to be nicely separated.
The ground floor has the kitchen, a spacious living room, and a conservatory. The kitchen is large enough for two or three people to cook at the same time. The conservatory has room for a dining table, a synthesizer, a cosy reading nook, and lots of houseplants.
Upstairs, there are four private bedrooms, along with a storage room, a laundry room, a separate toilet, and a large bathroom with a corner bathtub.
The house is heated by a gas-fired central heating system, and on cold winter evenings, we can also enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the fireplace in the living room.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to bring your own dog or cat. However, there is a cat living in the villa's courtyard who belongs to the owner, and you're welcome to give them some affection! :-)
Location and transport
Location: District II, Budapest, above Pál-völgyi Cave, near the intersection of Szépvölgyi út and Nyereg út.
The number 65 bus stop is just a few steps away. The bus runs every 20 minutes, and during the day, you can reach the city centre in approximately 40 minutes.
Rent and costs
- Rent: HUF 100,000 per person per month
- Utilities and common charges: An average of approximately HUF 20,000 per person per month
- Security deposit: Two months' rent, payable upon moving in, in addition to the current month's rent
- Furniture deposit: We also have a separate furniture deposit. When the founders of our cohousing community first moved into the house, it was unfurnished, so they furnished it themselves with everything needed to make it a comfortable home for all of us. This deposit is refundable when you move out.
Why is a room available?
One of our two Nóris has received a fantastic job opportunity and is planning to move to Berlin. As a result, we're looking for a new housemate to move in from 1 December.
Who are we looking for?
Someone who loves nature, is roughly within our age range (21–43), and shares some of our interests. Someone who doesn't mind checking the bus timetable in advance in exchange for waking up to birdsong.
It's a big plus if you enjoy taking initiative, organising activities, getting creative, or are interested in the philosophy of cohousing.
We'd love you to be planning to stay with us for the long term.
Who will you be living with?
Nóri
I'm in my thirties and enjoy a peaceful lifestyle. My main hobby is physical activity, especially yoga, but I also enjoy going for walks and cycling.
I currently work as a school nurse and am also studying psychology. I love books, good conversations, and cultural events such as films, theatre performances, and concerts.
I love spending time in nature and have a real soft spot for animals.
Robi
Community life and connecting with people are important to me.
I currently make a living installing irrigation and rainwater harvesting systems, as well as doing various handyman jobs. On top of that, I'm building my career as a fitness instructor. At the moment, I also work as an entertainer at football-themed children's birthday parties.
I spend my free time exploring psychology, staying active, and enjoying music. I dance bachata and salsa, work out, take part in running races, and go cycling.
I love nature, so I'm happy to have dozens of different bird species visiting our garden and a forest just nearby. I also have a knack for understanding the needs of houseplants and figuring out how things work mechanically.
Viki
Hi, I'm Viki, 29. I lived and worked in Frankfurt for a while, then went on a huge trip around the world. I recently returned to Budapest, and I'm incredibly happy to have become part of this shared living community.
I love spending time in forests, connecting with my body, doing yoga, dancing, and writing reflections and poems inspired by my life experiences.
I adore cats, and I love cooking and baking dishes with complex, layered flavours. I'm very community-minded and enjoy spending time with my housemates, too.
