About the building and surroundings:

On the corner plot there used to be a one-storey house, which was bought in 1865 by Cooper Master Gáspár Geist, a candle manufacturer; the house was remodelled two years later according to the plan of Antal Gottgeb.

This building was demolished by architect József Jahn in 1893, so that by 1895, according to his own plans, he could build a four-storey residential building with three facades (Rákóczi út 20., Dohány utca 17., Kazinczy utca 1.).

A few minutes walk away is the Dohány Street Synagogue, which is one of the most important tourist attractions in Budapest, the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world.
The architect of the church was Ludwig Förster (1797–1863), a German architect and teacher at the Vienna Academy.
