Description
A forest home in Kismaros — where weekends become everyday life
There's a particular kind of place people usually only get to visit on weekends — the kind you drive to on a Friday evening just to breathe, and leave on Sunday already missing. This house is that place. Except here, you don't have to leave.
Tucked into the hillside in Kismaros, right in the heart of the Danube Bend, between Verőce and Nagymaros, this is a home built for people who want to actually live inside the feeling of a holiday — not just borrow it for two days a month.
Close enough to the city, far enough from the noise
Kismaros sits just 50 km from Budapest via the M2, or about 35 minutes by express train from Nyugati station — with trains running every hour. So if you work in the city, or need to be there a few days a week, it's genuinely no distance at all. But the moment you step off that train and walk into the forest air here, Budapest feels like another world. That's the whole point.
And if you're one of the growing number of people who work online — from a laptop, on your own schedule, wanting quiet and focus rather than a bustling office — this place was designed with exactly that in mind. The owner works remotely too, and shaped several spots around the house purely for that kind of life: a corner by a window with a forest view, a shaded spot on the terrace, a quiet nook upstairs — places where you can open your laptop, get real work done, and still feel like you're on holiday the whole time.
A house shaped by an artist's hands
This isn't a house built from a catalogue. It was designed by a local artist and entrepreneur who lives and creates in this same village, and it shows in every corner. Large windows on every level frame the forest instead of shutting it out. The beds themselves were positioned so that the trees, the light, the quiet — it's all the first thing you see when you open your eyes, and the last thing before you close them. Nothing about it feels like an ordinary rental. It feels like somewhere someone truly loved.
Fully equipped, nothing overlooked
Living here full-time was clearly considered, not just weekend stays. There's a dishwasher, washer/dryer, air conditioning throughout, a large LED TV — the everyday comforts that let you actually settle in, not just camp out. It's a home in the fullest sense, just one surrounded by forest instead of neighbors.
A private spa, hidden in the trees
A recent addition has become everyone's favorite part: a jacuzzi tucked away in its own private "spa" corner of the garden, with lounge beds beside it. Picture an afternoon with a book and nowhere to be. A glass of wine with someone you love as the light fades. Or soaking quietly in the jacuzzi at night, surrounded by nothing but forest and stillness — the kind of silence that actually lets your mind rest.
A grill area built for real gatherings
For the days you want company, there's a proper grill area with an industrial-size charcoal or wood grill — big enough for a real gathering of friends, or just an evening for two. It's built for slow, unhurried cooking, including the kind that calls for a proper Hungarian gulyás simmering for hours, if you want to taste something truly local.
Room for the people you love
The house comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests, so this isn't a place you have to enjoy alone — bring your partner, your friends, your family. Let them stay with you while you show them your favorite corner of Hungary, or simply invite someone to come keep you company for a while.
Nature right outside the door
Marked hiking trails leave straight from Kismaros into the Börzsöny hills — some for a light afternoon walk, others for a full day of losing yourself in the forest. Nearby, there's the Királyrét Forest Railway, the Julianus Lookout Tower, the Kismaros Swabian Museum Collection, and the natural and cultural charm of Nagymaros and Zebegény just next door.
This house wasn't built to be rented. It was built to be lived in, loved, and slowly become someone's real life. Maybe it's time it became yours.
