Detailed Description

Every single square centimetre of this apartment has been reimagined and completely rebuilt. Our vision was to create a home unlike almost anything else in Budapest—a property for those who appreciate thoughtful architecture, premium craftsmanship, and homes with genuine character rather than simply market value.

For us, this was never just another renovation project. We wanted to create a home for people who seek originality instead of convention, quality instead of compromise, and living spaces with personality.
My wife was responsible for the interior design and styling, while I managed the entire renovation and project coordination. We collaborated with architects, designers and skilled craftsmen, but every important decision was made personally by us. We spent weeks selecting tiles, colours, lighting, fabrics, handles and decorative elements. Our goal was never speed—it was excellence.

The project proved to be our greatest challenge yet. Within one of Budapest's most remarkable historic buildings, we had the opportunity to create a truly unique home.
The apartment has been completely reconstructed from the ground up. The electrical system was entirely replaced and upgraded to 3×20A capacity, together with all plumbing, heating, ventilation, flooring, windows and virtually every technical component.

For months we worked closely with designers and contractors, personally overseeing every important decision. We refused to compromise, ensuring every detail found its perfect place.
One of the apartment's most distinctive features is its internal light well—a truly rare architectural element. We surrounded it with a natural-inspired green wall, transforming it into both a striking design feature and a naturally illuminated living space. It serves beautifully as a reading corner, home office or meditation area, while remaining one of the home's most memorable highlights.

The paintings shown in the photographs were created by us specifically for this apartment, and much of the furniture has been custom-made. Every detail was carefully designed to ensure the home is functional, elegant and timeless.

The living room forms the heart of the apartment. Nearly 4.5-metre ceilings, four oversized windows, abundant natural light and panoramic views over Kálvin Square and the church tower create an extraordinary atmosphere. Thanks to the modern triple-glazed wooden windows, these views can be enjoyed in complete peace and quiet.

Above the open-plan living area we created a fully enclosed mezzanine bedroom. It was important for us to design a genuine, independent living space rather than a conventional open loft. A spectacular floor-to-ceiling glass wall keeps the room bright and spacious, while sliding blackout curtains provide complete privacy whenever desired.

The upper level also features its own washbasin, separate WC and a freestanding bathtub directly beside the sleeping area. Watching Budapest's lights from here in the evening is a truly unforgettable experience.

The project was ultimately named Project Olive, inspired by the bonsai olive tree that became the focal point of the living space. The apartment's entire colour palette was designed around the soft natural greens and warm off-white tones of the olive tree, creating a harmonious, elegant and timeless interior.
