About the Szarvas–Békésszentandrás Holt-Körös in general:
The left-bank backwater of the Hármas-Körös. Common fish species include carp, grass carp, pike-perch, zander, pike, catfish, asp, bream, roach, perch, tench, and stone loach. It is the largest flood-protected oxbow in the Tisza river system, with a total length of 29.2 km, an average width of 71 m, an area of 207 ha, an average depth of 2.2 m, and a water volume of 4.5 million m³. The bed generally has little aquatic vegetation, although siltation is moderate in some areas.
The backwater plays a significant role in shaping the characteristic Körös riverside landscape. In addition to the built heritage of the settlements, its environment includes strictly protected nature reserves (Szarvas Arboretum, Anna Park), with many botanical and zoological rarities.
